From about the time the nation was busy being swept by Sybil Dorsett Dorsett’s bizarre story to the time of her death in February, 1998 at age 75, Shirley Ardell Mason lived in Lexington. She was an American psychiatric patient (Her true identity largely unknown in life, after her death it was determined that Shirley Mason was the real name of ‘Sybil Isabel Dorsett’, who had sixteen personalities) and whose life was documented in a book and a film originaly played by Sally Field in 1976.
