Influential indie-rock band The Triffids are experiencing a renaissance.

The Triffids formed in Perth in the late 1970s. I was in Primary school at the time. Their back catalogue has been remastered and re-issued around the world, on July 5 they will be inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame, and a new documentary is in production about lead singer Dave McComb, who died tragically in 1999 from heart-transplant complications.

“There is a growing recognition that his songs are simply some of the best ever written. ”

The Day of the Triffids is a post-apocalyptic novel written in 1951 by the English science fiction author John Wyndham. Although Wyndham had already written other novels, this was the first that he had written under this name and it appeared to be by a new author. It was this novel which established him as an important writer, and remains his best known.

Triffids are (fictional) plants capable of animal-like behaviour: they feed on rotting meat, are able to uproot themselves and move about on their three “legs”, possess a deadly whip-like poisonous sting, and appear to communicate with each other
It was a great book and a even better movie
The narrative begins with Masen in hospital, his eyes bandaged after having been stung by a Triffid at one of the farms. He discovers that while he has been recovering, the light from an unusual meteor shower has rendered most people on Earth blind.

The Day of the Triffids was cited by Karl Edward Wagner as one of the thirteen best science-fiction horror novels

Go Socceroos

A great bounce back with a 3-1 victory over Qatar in Doha last week, so they are through to the next round, with one game remaining. A home game in Sydney against China which they should go out to bury them and make a statement. Leaving Iraq and Qatar to play off for a spot in the 5th round. Interestingly the Aussies could end up playing New Zealand for a spot in the world cup, lets home it doesn’t come to that and they finish in the top 2 of there group, any more games like last time and I don’t think my poor heart can take it. On a different but same note so Italy make it through to the next round, I was hoping that the Dutch would throw the game to knock them out, cheating Italians

From about the time the nation was busy being swept by Sybil Dorsett Dorsett’s bizarre story to the time of her death in February, 1998 at age 75, Shirley Ardell Mason lived in Lexington. She was an American psychiatric patient (Her true identity largely unknown in life, after her death it was determined that Shirley Mason was the real name of ‘Sybil Isabel Dorsett’, who had sixteen personalities) and whose life was documented in a book and a film originaly played by Sally Field in 1976.

After a great start to there 2010 World Cup qualifing campaign the Socceroos slip up and lose 0-1 against Iraq, but a lot better showing than in the Asian Cup. They still lead the table and look set to progress to the next round. I am guessing the heat was too much for them in Dubai. So to prepare for there clash at altitude there train in Singapore (Sea Level), which the heat and humidity here would have been better to prepare for Dubai, (also at Sea Level). Should have gone to Darwin or Cairns instead of Brisbane, but winter time the weather would have been beautiful, maybe they should have gone to India and watched the cricket 20-20 world cup lol. Supported Warney.

So now off to Qatar, another HOT match then China at home which they should win, the Qatar match is a crunch match for them.

Interestily if they finish 3rd in the next stage and then win that next leg they could be playing New Zealand(or who wins Oceanea) for a spot in the World Cup, lets hope it doesn’t get to that stage thou and they fininsh in the top two and auto qualify.

Found this on the web - found it quite interesting who interesting comparisons, Garrett is a Leif Garrett/Peter Frampton combo – but in looks only. Garrett has an OK voice, it was a bit breathy, and he bought nothing new to “Breaking Up is Hard to Do.” It was, as Simon would say, very karaoke. It would have gone over fabulously in the local bar, but is this a recording artist? Not for me. He needed to make himself known in this song, and I know nothing more than I did a minute ago about who Garrett Haley is – except perhaps that he is a little boring.

Be interesting how the boys fair as they are saying that its the best talent since Rubin and Clay.

at long last I have moved hosts and got my site back up and running - it’s been a challenge.

I would have to say that Speedhostingz must have the worst Support/service I have come across, not just on the internet but of all all time. They just shut down, no notification of why, then wouldn’t answer any email, couldn’t get them by phone - notice no phone number support on their website, or support tickets.

Finally I decided that the time was to move hosting companies as I couldn’t get any word from Speedhostingz at all.
